Having an email list is important because it gives you direct access to those interested in your services.
Your list can be made up of various segments, that is groups based on different criteria.
For example, you can have a list of your current clients, your past clients, leads (or prospects) and a list for connections made elsewhere.
You can segment based on geographical location, interest, previous purchases and so much more.

When you use a good email service provider (or ESP), you can use it for more than just sending out a newsletter to subscribers every so often. (Which is important in itself.)
This tool can help you engage with your clients at different points in their lifetime cycle with you or in general.

Your ESP can help you automate your processes. If you have onboarding emails that you send to all new clients, or notifications to your team or to your clients, you can use your ESP to schedule the send.
You can use it to wish your contacts happy birthday or congratulate them on a work anniversary or a child's birthday.
The more data you collect about your clients, the better you can automate personalized engagement.
And that word at the end - personalized - that's an important part of the process.

It's great to put in someone's name, but there is more to it than that.

You should be using your data to make each email seem like a perfect fit for your audience. Make them feel you know them. Make them feel you care.

As a small business, you're going to want to find the cheapest solution for this.
Don't.
I usually suggest free tools.
But in this case, the cheap costs and a lot.

I tested many of the tools out there.
I created accounts, tried to set up emails, and created forms. I looked for ease of use, automations and segmentation.

Every time, it came back to ActiveCampaign.

From simple to complex automations, set up is easy. Their email designer is intuitive and simple to use. And it’s a product that can grow with you.

But whatever tool you use, make sure it integrates with you other tools so you have an updated list at all times.

And though social media is free advertising, an email list is worth investing in for the long run.
I recommend setting one up sooner rather than later. Start today.

Trust me, in the long run, it will make your life easier.
