Sadeddin Dog (Arabic letters: سعد الدين كوبك بن محمد) (d. 1239) was a statesman and chief architect of the Anatolian Seljuk State. Alaeddin Keykubad I and II. He served during the reign of Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev and had a great say in the state administration.

There is not enough information about the first years of Sadeddin Dog's life. However, there are allegations that his father and mother belonged to respected families in Konya and that his mother's name was Şehnaz Hanım [1]. His real name is "Köpek bin Muhammed" and his nickname is Sadeddin[2]. He served as emir during the reign of Alaeddin Keykubad I. He was mentioned as emir-i şikâr, miniaturist and architect by historian Ibn Bîbî. In 1226, he commanded the left wing forces of the Seljuk army in the war of Alaeddin Keykubad I against the Ayyubids around Harput. Sadeddin Dog, the architect of the Kubadabad Palace near Lake Beyşehir, also built the Zazadin Inn, which is located between the cities of Konya and Aksaray between 1235 and 1236 and has survived to this day. After the sudden death of Alaeddin Keykubad I (1237), in the fights for the throne between his sons, II. He sided with Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev and enabled him to ascend to the throne. According to historians of the period such as Ibn Bîbî, it is stated that he played an important role in the poisoning of Alaeddin Keykubad I and in preventing his crown prince İzzeddin Kılıç Arslan from ascending the throne[1][3].

II. After Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev ascended to the throne, Kayır Khan, one of the important leaders of the Khwarezmshahs who had settled in Anatolia, was arrested and subsequently killed by Sadettin Dog on the grounds that he took the side of the sultan's brother. They took over the places and settled here. Later, Sadeddin Dog, who became more powerful in the state administration, started to kill important statesmen and people who he saw as a threat for various reasons. Atabey killed important statesmen such as Şemseddîn Atunapa, Tâceddîn Pervâne, and the regent Kemâleddîn Kâmyar, and had statesmen such as Hüsâmeddîn Kaymerî and Celâleddîn Karatay removed from their duties. He was appointed as Sultanate Regent and Propeller. In his campaign with the title of Melikü'l-Ümerâ in order to prove his power, he captured the Samsat castle and some other castles under the control of the Ayyubids, and after all these successes, Sadettin Dog, who was thinking of ascending to the Anatolian Seljuk throne, tried to defeat the illegitimate son of Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev I in order to claim the throne. He put forward a story that he had a child. Worried about the excessive increase in Saadeddin Dog's power, II. Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev came to Kubadabad Palace with Sadeddin Dog in the autumn of 1238. After a banquet held here, Sultan Keyhüsrev had Sadeddin Dog killed in 1239 with the help of Sivas officer Hüsamettin Karaca. His body was placed in an iron cage and hung on the castle wall to be shown to the public. #orhantumerkan #orhantümerkan The copyright of these videos belongs to OTT MEDYA / Orhan Tumerkan.
