Lesson 04 Evaluating Expressions by Multiplying Negative Numbers
In this lesson you will learn how to evaluate expressions by multiplying negative numbers. Previously you've learned how to evaluate an expression when variable has a coefficient that is a number by which it is being multiplied. For example when y=2 8y=16 because 8x2=16. This method also works when an expression includes one or more negative numbers or when the variable itself is negative. For example if b = -5 the value of 4b is 4x(-5) = -20. Another example, suppose you want to find the value of -3u when u = -6, begin by plugging in -6 for u. -3u = -3 x (-6) = 18.
