Returning to Goa: Hitchhiking, Nostalgia, and Change
Two years. That's how long it's been since I last visited Goa. And now I'm back. As soon as my plane landed, I was overcome with nostalgia—the familiar humid air, the scent of spices, the palm trees... Everything seemed the same, but they say Goa isn't the same anymore.
From the airport, I decided to hitchhike to Arambol. Many are skeptical about hitchhiking in India, but it turns out to be truly amazing! Drivers are happy to stop, genuinely interested in travelers, asking questions, smiling.
Arambol... They call it the heart of North Goa. Two years ago, this town was lively, bustling, filled with music, motorcycles, and street cafes. But they say a lot has changed. There are fewer tourists, prices are higher, and the spirit of freedom is no longer the same. To test this, I decided to talk to Russian-speaking travelers, learn their opinions, stroll through familiar streets, and try to convey the atmosphere of Arambol as it is today.
