A quick video of a typical cleanup and string change on my 2002 Fender Highway One Telecaster. The frequency of how often strings get changed depends on how much I play. In this case, the guitar needed a good cleanup and new strings before I headed into a recording session.
My typical regimen for this guitar is:
1. Remove old strings
2. Clean frets with steel wool or very fine grit sandpaper, depending on what I have on hand.
3. Clean fretboard with Ronsonol or Windex, whatever I have on hand at the time.
4. Polish frets with metal polish
5. Clean guitar and fretboard with Ronsonol or Windex, whatever I have on hand at the time.
7. Install new strings (.10-.46)
8. Check setup and adjust if needed
Thanks for checking out the video! A disclaimer that this is just my (inexpensive) way of maintaining this guitar. I'm by no means a pro, but feel free to comment with questions or tips on changing strings and cleaning & setting up the guitar. Thanks!
Jose
