Why do Staffies smile? That's what we're looking at in today's video - the truth behind the smiles! 🐕
We've all seen endless videos and pictures of adorable Staffies (and other dogs) smiling away like their day couldn't possibly be any better.
But are they actually smiling?
Us humans, of course, love to believe that our Staffies are smiling at us. But it may be an adaptive behaviour.
We're so pleased when our dogs smile at us, that a lot of the time, we'll reward them with a treat or a big cuddle. Dogs aren't stupid, and they learn that smiling at their humans is a quick way to get a reward.
But, even though Staffies might be smiling just to get a treat, dogs also 'smile' when they're happy and calm.
The only thing to look out for is if your Staffy is too warm - that 'smile' can also mean they can't cool themselves off! 🐾
