In the previous video of html series I have discussed about formatting tags in html
Today I am going to discuss about html meta tags
So without any further delay let's get started
Meta tag
Meta data is represented by the Meta tag.
The meta tag provides information about the HTML document.
The content of the meta tag are not displayed in the webpage.
Meta-data is used by the browsers and search engines.
Through meta tag browsers and search engines gets information of a particular website
Through meta tag we can define the following
Elements
DESCRIPTION :- We can provide description of web page by meta tag.
If we search about a particular topic in a browser
A list of websites are displayed
First 2 lines under a given website is defined by the description in the meta tag
If we do not define the description in the meta tag then search engines will use some starting lines of the article as description.
KEYWORDS:-
You can provide information about keywords related to webpage to search engines by using meta tag.
From keywords, search engines can identify what kind of topic related information is provided on a particular page
Author:-
The information related to the author of the webpage is also provided by the meta tag.
Character Set:-
You can also provide the character encoding information that is used
in the meta tag
To provide this information we need attributes
such as
Name
Content
Charset
http-eqiv
