Q). Would you be able to explain how scales can be played on only one or two guitar strings horizontally along the neck? I see a lot of rock guitarists play like this, but every book and web-site always lists the scales as played vertically across the neck. If there is some kind of a proper system to learning this, I'd really be into practicing it. I think scales sound really good played like this.

A). Going horizontally instead of vertical with scales can create some really cool sounding guitar runs. The scales, when performed this way, will also open themselves up to some great opportunities for; hammer-ons and pull-offs, as well as, plenty of slides. The best part of working on these along the neck horizontal ideas, is that it will automatically have you creating a lot of personalized inventions of both exercise studies and original licks that will start to pop-up in your solos!
