Supplements That Can Ease Migraine Attacks 🌙.
You may not require all, here are some good options to discuss with your Doctor:
🔹 Magnesium (glycinate)
Systematic reviews and RCTs support magnesium as “possibly effective” for prevention. A 600 mg/day citrate trial reduced migraine frequency. Glycinate and other organic salts are well absorbed and often better tolerated at 400–600 mg/day. (PMID: 29131326, 18705538, 29093983, 37487817)
🔹 Riboflavin (B2)
The landmark 400 mg/day RCT reduced attack frequency and headache days over 3 months. A 2022 meta-analysis confirmed fewer days, shorter duration, and less pain. Minimal side effects make it a first-line nutraceutical option. (PMID: 9484373, 33779525)
🔹 Coenzyme Q10
A trial with 100 mg three times daily reduced attacks by month 3 with a 48% responder rate. Meta-analyses show significant reductions in monthly headache frequency. Usual dose is 100–300 mg/day, divided. (PMID: 15728298, 33402403)
🔹 Omega-3 fatty acids
Dietary and supplement trials with higher EPA or EPA+DHA intake lowered headache frequency and severity. Benefits are seen with 1.5–3 g/day for at least 12 weeks, though results vary by dose and design. (PMID: 34526307, 38499208)
🔹 Melatonin
A 3 mg nightly trial outperformed placebo and matched amitriptyline 25 mg with fewer side effects. A 2022 review found improved frequency, duration, and medication use. Morning sleepiness can occur. (PMID: 27165014, 36445912)
