In this tutorial, I walk through the Bake Shader feature in the ShapeMesh suite.

ShapeMesh assets often use procedural shaders, and in many cases those shaders are animated or driven directly by rig controls. That works well inside Maya, and may even render correctly in Maya, but it becomes a problem when you need to export the asset to another package.

Bake Shader solves that problem by taking the component color information from a selected shaded mesh and baking it out into image sequences. These image sequences can then be used downstream in Unity, Unreal, Blender, Houdini, or any other package where Maya procedural shader networks are not useful on their own.

In this example, I use a waterfall asset whose shader is driven by animation controls. I start with the simple GUI workflow, then take a closer look at the underlying ShaderBoy API.
