Magistrate’s Court Project was the first construction project in Seychelles to be taken up under Government of India's cash grant assistance in 2018. It was a design and build project, taken up for execution at a cost of USD 3.45 million at Ile Du Port, Mahé.
The project was awarded in March 2018 to M/s Turnkey Solutions Ltd. by Government of Seychelles after floating of tenders. The foundation stone for this building was laid by then Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Hon. Mathilda Towmey and High Commissioner, Dr. Ausaf Sayeed on 28th September 2018. The construction which began in March 2019 progressed rapidly and was completed in October 2020, despite COVID-19 led restrictions for the movement of labour and material.
Some of the special highlights of the project include:
(a) Eight Court rooms and private chambers containing bathrooms.
(b) Waiting areas for the public and Parking space for court users, police vans and magistrates.
(c) Separated holding cells for men, women and child accused.
(d) Multifunctional conference rooms, meeting rooms and video rooms.
(e) Dedicated Gymnasium and Recreational Space in the top floor
(f) Day care facility for children under 1 year old
The project was formally handed over by the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Shri. Narendra Modi to the Hon'ble President of Seychelles, Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan at an e-inaugaration ceremony held at State House Seychelles on 8 April 2021.
