Back in the 70's, face-to-face mixtape selling was a well-known strategy for getting your music out there. The process would be quick: put the tape in a boombox, wait for people to listen, and however liked it could get a copy for some money.
Today's online buying experience is far from easy. If you want to buy music, customers need to register, go through multiple checkout pages, and use many different forms to give their information. But what if we could mimic the original quick selling experience for our modern mobile users? What if they could explore, listen, and buy your music directly from just scanning a poster? Everything from within a phone, in a standardized format that could use their information already saved in their phone?
The Payment Request API, introduced recently in late May of 2017, provides a standard way to retrieve user's information with ease while avoiding long cumbersome checkout steps. In this talk, we will show how to use the Payment Request API to request customer's saved information, query user's credit cards, request shipping information, and checkout a song for the client, everything within the browser. We will showcase why this API is importance, its relevance in different markets in the world, and things to expect from it in the future.
