A university professor named Stefano travels to an island in the Venetian lagoon to visit his brother, Don Paolo, who is a local priest. Suffering from a nervous breakdown, Stefano is hoping for a peaceful retreat but instead finds himself in a nightmare. A series of brutal murders begins, seemingly connected to a dark secret from the past and a series of threatening letters his brother has been receiving. As the body count rises, Stefano must confront his own traumatic childhood memories to uncover the identity of the shadowy killer.
