Installing glass on a 3D printer bed is quite simple. Cut the glass or mirror with a glass cutter, round the edges with a block or sanding mat.
Degrease the surfaces and apply thermal paste. Why bother with thermal paste?
1. Thermal paste will fill the gaps between the bed and the glass and ensure uniform and rapid heating of the glass surface. The simplest and most readily available thermal paste, KPT-8, is suitable.
2. After lapping and a few hours of operation, the paste will "set" and hold the glass tightly. Clamps will only be needed on hot metal, and then only for a test hold.
The advantage of installing glass is that it can be easily replaced if it chips or gets damaged. Glass provides a smooth surface and allows for repeated application and removal of adhesion enhancers without consequences. Glass can also smooth out unevenness on the bed, but it's important to understand that thin glass can follow the bed's curves, while excessively thick glass puts unnecessary strain on the printer itself, so compromises are still key.
Happy printing, friends!
