Final Fantasy IX - Terra (Arranged)
This is a cover from the PlayStation game Final Fantasy IX.
The music is originally composed for the game by Nobuo Uematsu.
About the Track
Normally when I make covers, especially of music from older games where the technical limitations were high, I usually go by the theory of "don't fix it if it's not broken" - I try to be as true to the original as possible, applying the same instruments and the same arrangements, but all with better quality.
This time however, I took some creative license because I thought that Mr Uematsu didn't take the song to its full epically haunting potential (as was the case with a lot of the music in FF9, in my honest opinion).
I exchanged the harp with piano and steel string guitar, and took away the violin that was "on top" of the basoon, in order to let the latter have the lead. At the haunting climax, I added timpani rolls, symphonic strings, some ambient sounds, and upped the reverb in order bring out all the ethereal qualities that were always there, but didn't get as much "oompf" as they deserved. You judge if I did a good job or not.

This is not an attempt to add to or detract from N. Uematsu's work, or to plagiarize it. It's a cover, and an homage to his talent as a composer.
