When I bought my 1961 Cessna 172, I thought the hard part was over.
It turns out aircraft ownership had other plans.
In this video, I break down the maintenance issues that showed up almost immediately after bringing N8294X home, including electrical problems, a failing master solenoid, a panel that would intermittently lose power, an alternator failure caused by an improperly sized wire from a previous STC installation, a transponder encoder replacement, and even a lesson learned the hard way while servicing the nose strut.
None of these issues were catastrophic, but together they painted a realistic picture of what it's like owning and maintaining a 65-year-old airplane.
If you're considering buying your first aircraft—or already own one—this is a candid look at the challenges, surprises, and lessons that come with aircraft ownership.
