Felted Mitten Tutorial - Make your own Bernie's Mittens
They were a viral hit with the added bonus of being practical & cozy warm, let's make some!
Follow along as I make a few pairs of recycled wool mittens ala Bernie's Mittens. These are a great way to upcycle a wool sweater and keep usable fabric out of the landfill.

How to make your own:
When making your mittens, if you want your wool sweater fabric to felt densely, make sure to use clothes with high-organic content; merino, cashmere, wool, Angora, etc. All these organic fibers will felt and make a warm and durable fabric. My favorite place to find material is at thrift stores & second hand shops. Sweaters with moth holes or that have already been (accidentally) felted are usually very affordable!
You can also make them out of acrylic or synthetic knitted garments, though they won't felt they're still cozy and squishy. The sky's the limit!

This is a great picture tutorial and the pattern is easy for beginners.
You don't need to know how to knit to make these mittens; they can be sewn, or have crochet cuffs instead. The great thing about these viral mitten is that no two pairs are ever alike! They make wonderful gifts, they're easy to put in the glovebox of the car or the backpack, in case of unexpected chilly weather. And because they're recycled, you might not feel so bad if you accidentally forget them on the top of the car and drive away. You can always make another pair!
