Can Kadyrov or Prigozhin come to power?
Vladimir Putin seems to have been dead set to make sure that the idea “it may be even worse without Putin” would have no supporters in either Russia or the rest of the world. It was previously, before the war, that you could argue, “Well yes, Putin is evil, but that is a predictable and understandable evil, while there’s a scary uncertainty after him, you cannot know how it may turn out, what if it ends up even worse?” After the nine months of the bloody slaughter in Ukraine, after rattling the nuclear sabre and acts of terrorism against critical civil infrastructure, it should have already become clear to everyone: Putin is terrorist No. 1 in the world, one must not deal with him or be afraid of what will be after him. It won’t be worse.
But despite that, we hear more and more, in both the West and Russia, “If Putin is gone, Prigozhin or Kadyrov will come to power, and then we are completely screwed.” In my new video I discuss what is wrong with this argument, why it is very useful for Putin and his agents of influence, and how to refute it.
