Drummers, today I'm going to teach you important fills, fills that every beginner drummer should know. But why? Because in certain situations, or actually, in most situations, or in my honest opinion, in all situations, we as drummers need or should serve the music first!
Even if you're a beginner drummer, that doesn't mean you can't play in a band or at church and do fills with style. Even if others say these fills are "simpler" or "easier," that's because they don't know. The fills I'm going to teach you today are fills we hear on albums by bands like AC/DC, Michael Jackson, the Beatles, Steve Wonder, Bruno Mars, Madonna, Foo Fighters, David Bowie, and the Rolling Stones. That's because these fills are part of the drumming language, folks. We've had drummers playing these fills for over 50 years. They've already passed the seal of quality. People know these fills even without knowing it. They've heard them thousands of times in the greatest bands of all time. And when you play, it will sound great to their ears because it's familiar. So it doesn't matter if the phrase is easy or not, what matters is that these phrases will always land well!
