If you want to publish an iPhone app, iPad app, or Mac app on Apple’s App Store, you’ll eventually need to join the Apple Developer Program. In this video, I’ll explain what the Apple Developer Program is, what you can do with the free developer account, and when you need to upgrade to the paid $99/year membership to ship your app, use TestFlight, access App Store Connect, and publish to the App Store.

I’ll cover the difference between enrolling as an individual vs. an organization, what a D-U-N-S Number is, why some Apple capabilities like push notifications, in-app purchases, Sign in with Apple, CloudKit, and WeatherKit require the paid program, and how this all fits into the iOS development process. If you’re brand new to Swift, SwiftUI, Xcode, App Store Connect, TestFlight, or building apps for Apple platforms, this video will give you the big-picture understanding you need before launching your first app.
