📘 Odoo Community Setup Tutorial — Modules, Developer Mode & Community Accounting
In this tutorial, I will demonstrate the initial Odoo setup process using a fresh Odoo database.
We will cover three important steps: activating the required Odoo modules, enabling Developer Mode, and installing a Community Accounting module as a third-party application.

📥 Download and extract a third-party Accounting module
📁 Create a dedicated custom addons directory
⚙️ Configure the Odoo odoo.conf file to include the custom addons path
🔄 Restart the Odoo Windows service
🔃 Update the Odoo Apps List
📋 Search for and activate the Community Accounting module
✅ Verify that the Accounting module has been installed successfully
🗂️ Part 1 — Activating Odoo Modules
We start with a fresh Odoo database and activate the modules required for our business processes:
🛒 Purchase
💰 Sales
📦 Inventory
🏭 Manufacturing
🧾 Accounting
I will demonstrate the installation process using the Purchase module and then show how to activate the remaining required modules.
🛠️ Part 2 — Activating Developer Mode
Next, we enable Developer Mode from:
Settings → Developer Tools → Activate the developer mode
Developer Mode provides access to additional technical and configuration features that are useful when customizing and configuring Odoo.
🧾 Part 3 — Installing Community Accounting
In this section, we will install a free Community Accounting module as a third-party application.
The process includes:
📥 Obtain the appropriate Accounting module for your Odoo version
📦 Extract the ZIP file
📁 Create a dedicated addons_custom directory
⚙️ Add the custom addons path to odoo.conf
📋 Copy the Accounting module into the custom addons directory
🔄 Restart the Odoo server service
🔃 Update the Odoo Apps List
🔎 Search for the Accounting module
🚀 Activate the module
✅ Verify that the Accounting application is available
⚠️ Important: The Community Accounting module demonstrated in this video is a third-party/community module, not the official Odoo Enterprise Accounting application. Make sure you use a module that is compatible with your specific Odoo version.
📂 Example Custom Addons Path
For this tutorial, we create a dedicated custom addons directory rather than placing the third-party module directly inside Odoo's standard addons folder.
Example:
C:\Program Files\Odoo 18.0\server\odoo\addons_custom
The corresponding path is then added to the Odoo configuration file (odoo.conf).

Your Odoo database will have the required modules activated, Developer Mode enabled, and the Community Accounting module installed, providing a foundation for configuring the company's business processes.
