I bought a spare. now I will inspect it before it goes on the shelf

HOW TO:::

Disassemble the Starter:
Carefully take apart the starter motor, keeping track of the order of components as you go. Document the disassembly process if needed.
Clean with Brake Cleaner:
Spray brake cleaner on the starter components, especially in areas with built-up grime and grease. Use a brush or a rag to gently scrub away dirt and residue. Ensure thorough cleaning.
Inspect for Wear:
Examine each part for wear and tear. Replace any damaged or excessively worn components. Inspect the wiring for fraying or damage.
Apply Moly Grease:
Apply a small amount of moly grease to moving parts like gears and bearings. This helps reduce friction during future use.
Lubricate with Motor Oil:
Use motor oil to lubricate parts that require oil-based lubrication. Ensure even distribution for smooth operation.
Reassemble the Starter:
Reassemble the starter in the reverse order of disassembly. Make sure all components are correctly positioned and tightened.
Final Checks:
Double-check all connections and bolts. Ensure there are no leftover parts.
Storage Preparation:
If storing for an extended period, consider coating external surfaces with a thin layer of motor oil to prevent corrosion.
Label and Store:
Clearly label the starter with details such as date of cleaning and any specific notes. Store it in a dry, cool place on a clean surface.
