Downsizing? We call it Rightsizing!
John and Becky Durham of the Durham Executive Group/RE/MAX are recognized as the best Realtors in Stillwater MN, and Eastern Twin Cities for clients who are wanting to down-size, or right-size their home. If you are watching this video than you likely know it is time to consider downsizing your home for any number of reasons. This might include maintenance costs, re-investing your home equity, freeing up spare time to enjoy doing things you really would prefer doing. However, the other key reason to consider down-sizing is for considering a home which will allow you to age-in-place from a sudden lack of mobility perspective. Most aging-in-place homeowners never consider whether the family home with all their remodeling expense will accommodate you should someone lose mobility. In most cases, the family home simply is not set-up for the aging population to age-in-place when a wheel chair is required. Do you have internal stairs? Is the shower set-up to accommodate a wheel chair? You need to determine what is the right home decision now before the loss of mobility happens.
We are licensed in MN & WI, and are a husband/wife real estate team with 40+ years of combined experience providing expertise to our clients. Becky previously worked as a Counselor for many years and is licensed as a Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES). One of our favorite real estate specialties is working with Baby Boomers and Seniors, which is why we founded and put on the largest Boomers & Seniors Expo's in both MN & WI for several years. John specializes in Aging in Place, remodeling and ROI in determining whether a clients current family home, or a home a client is contemplating purchasing is set-up properly for the possibility of a loved one eventually losing mobility. Here is a unsolicited email testimonial from a person attending one of our Boomers & Seniors Expo and educational workshops recently how appreciative they were of our right-sizing and aging in place recommendations:
Hi John, "We attended a seminar you put on for people retiring at the YMCA camp in Hudson a few years ago. I actually won a beautiful fused glass plate you made with acorns and leaves. Your seminar opened our eyes. You mentioned how fixing your home for a wheelchair and other things may not be the most cost effective. It maybe time to sell rather than remodel. It got my husband and I thinking we did sell our home on Fremont street. We moved into a slab one-level home. Only to have my husband pass finding he had pancreatic cancer when we moved in. He spent only 5 months in our new home. I just wanted to thank you for sharing your knowledge and I really hope you are still giving those seminars it helped me".
Sincerely Denise B.
