Dragon Age: Inquisition - "Way of the Artificer" Quest Guide
Once you obtain Skyhold, you'll be able to choose a specialization after a few quests. As a Rogue you can choose to become an Assassin, Tempest, or as shown in this video, an Artificer.
These specialization quests don't really tell you what to do exactly. This video will show you how to complete the "Way of the Artificer" quest to become an Artificer.
Aqcuire writing on Artificer methods: This is found on the table next to Varric in the great hall.
Alpha Quillback Spines: In The Western Approach are 3 locations where you can find an Alpha Quillback accomponied by two normal Quillbacks. Save before defeating these enemies, as they may not drop the item. The third location can also be reached by unlocking an operation, but you can skip it entirely if you want.
Obsidian: This is found near the Dragon in the Hinterlands. Just move to the back where he won't hurt you. You can also go to the Ferelden side on the War Table and if you have Crestwood unlocked, you can send Cullen's men to find Obsidian for you in the Crestwood Resources operation. (If you want to speed up the progress, set your console/PC clock forward by 1 hour to instantly complete the mission.)
Construct Tools: Once you've obtained all the items go to a Requisition table and craft the Custom Precision Tools.
