Generative software is playing all the non-trumpet parts, in particular: KaiGen-M2 for bass and choir, KaiGen-R2 is playing an 808, and a combination of KaiGen-I-Ching and KaiGen-M2 play the glitch parts. The I-Ching device—through the generation of I-Ching hexagrams using the coin method—rapidly changes the presets stored on a synth, in this case Massive, while the KaiGen-M2 is generating bursts of notes going into the synth.
The trumpet is being processed by a custom VST, a chaotically sensitive and oddly gated stereo distortion I call SICK. All of the custom devices and plugins I authored in Max/MSP and RNBO and I'm running them in Ableton Live, some as Max for Live devices and some as VST. All are freely available on my website (except SICK) and fully hackable in Max.
