Apollo 17 Command Module view of the landing site from orbit from 13-Dec-1972 0325 to 0331 UTC (Mission time at start: 05d 21h 52m)

This video is a real-time simulated view of the Moon as seen from the Apollo 17 Command Module in orbit. The camera is pointed at the landing site of the Lunar Module.

The simulated views were created using color data and digital elevation models of the Moon determined from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) . The orbital positions of the Apollo 17 command module relative to the Sun and Moon were determined from NASA's Navigation and Ancillary Information (NAIF) using the SPICE package. Ray-tracing was done using the open source software POV-ray. -JD
