'The Aaronic Priesthood in the Latter Days'
John the Baptist, the icon of the Aaronic Priesthood, visits Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery and confers upon them the keys of the lower, preparatory priesthood. The priesthood of baptism. Baptism represents the Doctrine of Christ, choosing to enter mortality, take on adversity and the burdens of others, then on to victory through Christ and the resurrection.
It is interesting that John comes alone. The Aaronic Priesthood is the priesthood of the individual. Also, John does not ordain Joseph Smith or Oliver Cowdery to a priesthood office. Those offices and quorums are created with the ongoing organization of the church.
