Red Rock - Reno, Nevada
North Red Rock Road stretches across U.S. Highway 395 10 miles east of the Nevada-California border. As you head north on Red Rock Road, you’ll make you’re way past the Silver Lake Drybed and through the Stead community, and as you pass the Reno-Stead Airport, you’ll find Red Rock of northern Nevada. Red Rock consists of vacant lots of land of varying acres. Residents have begun to develop homes and ranches on their property, but the community is sparse compared to the majority of Reno. The heart of Red Rock rests about 20 minutes from downtown Reno, and 15 from Cold Springs.

Red Rock’s proximity to Cold Springs provides residents with the amenities of their community. Cold Springs Family Center is a nonprofit center providing exercise classes, childcare, event space rental, and more to the North Valleys. Village Grill is an excellent American bar and grill less than a mile from the facility. Cold Springs Community Center is in the Cold Springs Park, also available for event space rental, surrounded by basketball courts, walking paths, playgrounds, and the Cold Springs Skateboard Park.
The Reno-Stead Airport once served as a military training center until obtained by the City of Reno. Reno-Stead Airport has earned its place in northern Nevada residents as the annual host of the STIHL National Championship Reno Air Races, bringing visitors up close and personal with hundreds of military and recreational aircraft. Sierra Sage Golf Course is the closest course to the community, in addition to being the most affordable in northern Nevada. Sierra Sage provides practice greens, a driving range, a Pro Shop, and the Pub at Sierra Sage. Bonanza Casino is one of the only casinos available to the North Valleys, short of driving to downtown Reno.
While the Northern Valleys feel distant from the city of Reno below, there are terrific shopping centers that relieve residents from traveling too far from the community. Sky Vista Shopping Center is on Lemmon Drive and Buck Drive. The center provides stores like Walmart Supercenter, Walgreens, Smith’s, Grocery Outlet Bargain Market, CVS, and restaurant, Peg’s Glorified Ham N Eggs. One freeway exit away on Golden Valley Road is North Hills Shopping Center. This market is home to Raley’s, the North Valleys Library, and a Renown Health Urgent Care. Enjoy restaurants like Carmelitas Taqueria or Steak ‘N Shake or find time for your daily workout at Anytime Fitness.
The Washoe County School District serves students of Red Rock’s residents. Students begin their education at Silver Lake Elementary before entering Cold Springs Middle School. Cold Springs Middle School is conveniently next door to the Family Center in the northern part of the community. North Valleys High School joined the school district in 2001 to ease the commute of northern residents.
