In this video, we explore some of the most disgusting foods that our ancestors used to eat, some of which might make us feel grateful for our modern-day diets! From flamingo tongue, considered a delicacy in ancient Rome due to the flamingo's status as a symbol of wealth, to garum, a popular fermented fish sauce that included fish guts, blood, vinegar, honey, herbs, and spices left to ferment in the sun for months, some of these ancient recipes are truly revolting by today's standards. However, nothing quite compares to the live bird pie, a dish in which a large pie is filled with live birds, meant to fly out once the crust is cut. We also explore ttongsul, a medicinal rice wine made by fermenting feces from both humans and animals, which some people still believe can help heal various ailments, including bruises, cuts, broken bones, and epilepsy. Join us as we take a journey through the bizarre and disgusting foods of our ancestors and gain a new appreciation for our modern-day cuisine.
