Path Vector Routing Protocol.
Classless Routing Protocol.
By default auto summary is disabled.
Maximum-path by default is 1.
It is a Layer 7 protocol.
TCP Port no 179.
It is a completely reliable routing protocol.
Administrative Distance is 20 and 200. 20 for eBGP & 200 for iBGP.
It sends its messages as a unicast.
Doesn’t support dynamic neighbourship.
BGP convergence is slow as compare to IGP Protocols.
Where we use BGP :
• When our network is enterprise network.
• IGP protocol developed for to handle 1000’s of prefixes.
• When we are service provider. • Between two service provider.
• Types of customers.
Single homed customer.
Dual homed customer.
Single multi homed customer. –
Dual multi homed customer.
• Only one AS run in one BGP router.
• In between BGP neighbours one router uses random tcp port no & one router use well known BGP port no.
• BGP router which initiates the TCP connection is used random port number.
