Central Government Health Scheme provides comprehensive medical care to enrolled Central Government employees and pensioners along with their dependent family members.
Started in the year 1954, CGHS has over the years, expanded considerably and presently approximately 42 lakh beneficiaries are covered by CGHS in 80 cities all over India.
The scheme also serves members and former members of parliament, judges of the Supreme Court and High Court, freedom fighters, former Governors and former Vice-Presidents of India.
