Jumayev arrested for rally brawl: Chechen man fought OMON riot police single-handedly
Police detained a Chechen man who fought with riot police at a rally in Moscow.
He is currently being transported to the Moscow Investigative Committee, according to media reports. The Moscow Ministry of Internal Affairs, however, stated that they have no information about the arrest. A Chechen deputy had previously contacted the young man and asked him to get in touch, promising to help.
Police detained Said-Mukhammad Dzhumayev, who fought with riot police during an unauthorized rally in Moscow in support of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, Interfax reports, citing a source.
The Telegram channel Baza and the television channel REN TV also reported Dzhumayev's arrest.
"Dzhumayev has been detained by criminal investigation officers. He is currently being taken to an investigator," an Interfax source said.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs told RBC that they were unaware of the arrest. "We have not received such information," the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Moscow reported. The press service of the head of the Chechen Republic and the government also had no information about Dzhumayev's detention.
After this, Chechen MP Adam Delimkhanov contacted the man and urged him to contact them. Delimkhanov called resisting law enforcement a crime, but emphasized that if Dzhumayev does not support the views of Navalny's supporters, they will help him. "But if you do not accept their position, Ramzan-haji [Kadyrov], our padishah, said he will help you with matters concerning the law [as soon as] you appear," Delimkhanov explained.
