Check Disk (CHKDSK) is Windows's built-in system utility that can help us find bad sectors, and tries to fix errors in the file system. When the computer begins to slow down, freeze or crash frequently, gives BSOD errors, and starts behaving oddly then you can use it as the first step to start diagnosing your Windows system. It is designed to check the integrity of the disk partition file system and scan and fix the detected logical file system errors on the hard disk. It checks the file system and file system metadata of a volume for logical and physical errors. It can scan the entire hard drive to look for and repair the soft bad sectors and marks the hard bad sectors so that they will not be used anymore.
So, whenever your system behaves abnormally, run the check disk diagnostics first. Check Disk examines disks and can correct many types of common errors on FAT16, FAT32, and NTFS drives. So, you should periodically use the Check Disk tool to check the integrity of disks.
