Kono Oto Tomare Expertly Exploits Viewer Expectation
The first episode of Kono Oto Tomare! is quite frankly, possibly the worst advertisement to watch it ever. It's full of trashy schlock, something you watch with popcorn in hand. But sometimes, a show has to dangle some schlock to get to the heart of some things. The show pretty much revolves around misunderstandings, but instead of being the butt of the joke like in other shows (Gamers! comes to mind), they're used to farm the feeling of sweet relief. I think a show is truly great when it begins to echo what you say impulsively responding to a scene in your head (e.g. Kiss him already!). You could say in a meta way, the show fixed my own misunderstanding of it. And I'm grateful that I didn't miss out.
