Greg Victoroff, Esq., partner at Greg Victoroff & Associates, simply describes contracts as an agreement between people. In the case of authors and illustrators, the agreement may cover who owns the illustrations, when they are due, how many will be due, and so on. Victoroff recommends referring to Tad Crawford’s Business and Legal Forms for Illustrators (https://www.amazon.com/Business-Legal...) and the Writers Guild of America Collaboration Agreement (https://www.wga.org/uploadedFiles/con...) to get a good idea of how a contract between an author and illustrator should look. Because the author is usually seeking out the illustrator, the illustrator may have some leverage to negotiate for certain fees and conditions.
