The project is based on the Digispark Attiny85 board. It's possible for this small board to act as a HID (human interfaceable device) mouse assuring cross-OS compatibility without the hassle of installing drivers.
The board has plenty of analog pins, but they are also used for the USB connection, so that wasn't an option for me. So I had to unlock P5 which is the reset pin normally. To do this I used a Arduino Nano with the AVRISP firmware from the Arduino Sketch program. After that it's actually quite simple with two commands in the terminal using AVRDUDE.
When the button is clicked the mouse will slow down until it has been clicked 5 times. Then it will reset to it's normal sensitivity. This can easily be changed to a mouse left click and right click when held down for some time.
If you plan on making this project yourself be sure to check if your joystick is missing a resistor. I used a 750 ohm SMD resistor but similar resistors can also be used instead.
The connections are as followed:
VCC - VCC
GND - GND
P5 - X
P2 - Y
P1 - KEY
