In this video, you will learn how to install Visual Studio Code on Windows 10. As of my last update in September 2021, Visual Studio Code (VS Code) was compatible with Windows 11, so the installation process should be similar to installing it on Windows 10. However, it's always a good idea to check for any updates or specific requirements before proceeding. Here is the step-by-step guide to get VS Code up and running on your Windows Machine.
Download VS Code Installer:
Go to the official Visual Studio Code website at https://code.visualstudio.com and click on the "Download for Windows" button. This will download the latest version of the VS Code installer for Windows.
Run the Installer:
Once the download is complete, locate the downloaded file (usually in your Downloads folder) and double-click on it to run the installer.
User Account Control (UAC):
Windows may prompt you with the User Account Control dialog, asking for permission to make changes to your computer. Click "Yes" to proceed.
Select Installation Options:
The installer will open a setup wizard. You can choose the installation options according to your preference, or you can leave the default settings as they are. Click on the "Next" button.
Select Additional Tasks (Optional):
The installer may provide options for creating shortcuts, adding context menu items, or associating file types with Visual Studio Code. Choose the desired options and click "Next."
Choose Destination Folder:
Select the destination folder where you want to install Visual Studio Code. The default location is usually in the "Program Files" directory. Click "Next" to continue.
Create Start Menu Entries:
You can choose whether to create shortcuts for Visual Studio Code in the Start menu. Select the desired option and click "Next."
Choose Additional Tasks (Optional):
The installer may ask if you want to send usage data and crash reports to Microsoft to improve the product. You can choose whether to participate or not. Click "Next."
Install Visual Studio Code:
The installer will now proceed with the installation process. Wait for the installation to complete. This may take a few moments depending on your system's speed.
Launch Visual Studio Code:
Once the installation is finished, you can either launch Visual Studio Code immediately by leaving the "Launch Visual Studio Code" checkbox checked, or you can manually launch it later from the Start menu.
Update Extensions and Settings (Optional):
After launching VS Code, you can update extensions and settings according to your preferences. VS Code supports a wide range of extensions that enhance its functionality for various programming languages and development workflows.
Note: For Web development, 2 extensions that will be of great use to you are:
Prettier Code Formatter - https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/...
Live server - https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/...
That's it! You have successfully installed Visual Studio Code on your Windows 10 machine. You can now start coding and customizing the editor to suit your needs. Remember to keep your VS Code and extensions updated to take advantage of the latest features and improvements.
