Formed in 1953, The Platters were one of the most successful singing groups of the 50s. Their first big hit was the classic "Only You" released in 1955 and was followed by a string of top 10 hits. Over the next decade they had a total of 26 top 40 hits and 6 songs reaching the #1 position. Notable memories include "The Great Pretender", "My Prayer", "Twilight Time", and "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes". Total records sales to date are in excess of 80 million, making them one of the most successful vocal recording groups ever. The Platters were the only act to have three songs included on the "American Graffiti" soundtrack. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. Although almost all of their hits featured Tony Williams at lead, all 5 members were soloists in their own rights. This selection is from their album "Remember When" released in 1959 and features David Lynch on lead.
