Step 1: Research Business Schools
Before you start the MBA admission process, you'll need to research the business schools you're interested in attending. You can start by looking at school rankings, talking to alumni, attending college fairs and researching schools' websites.
Step 2: Take the GMAT or GRE (If needed for your desired program)
The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) is a common requirement for business schools as part of the MBA admission process. The GMAT is a standardized test that measures your analytical writing, quantitative and verbal skills. The GRE is a similar test but is used by a broader range of graduate programs. Before you take the GMAT or GRE, you'll want to check to see if it’s needed. Some schools like SNHU, don’t require tests at all.
Step 3: Request Transcripts and Recommendations
Most business schools require official transcripts from all the colleges and universities you've attended. You'll need to request these from each institution and have them sent directly to the schools you're applying to. (SNHU will request these for you, for free!)
Additionally, you might need to request recommendations from people who can speak to your academic or professional achievements. It's essential to choose recommenders who know you well and can provide meaningful insights into your abilities.
Step 4: Submit Your Application
Once you've completed all the required steps, it's time to submit your application. Make sure you've double-checked everything and have included all the necessary materials. Some schools may also require an application fee, so be prepared for that expense. (At SNHU, it’s always free to apply.)
Step 5: Wait for the Decision
After you've submitted your application, the waiting game begins. This part of the process can be nerve-wracking, but it's important to stay patient and positive. Admissions committees typically take several weeks or months to review applications and make decisions. Some schools, like SNHU, can get you decisions in a matter of days.
