Unlock The Power Of Anadromes With The Shining
When Stanley Kubrick's The Shining was unleashed upon the world on May 23, 45 years ago today, critics were far from flattering. Stephen King, who penned the novel on which the film is loosely based, famously hated it.
The film was a nightmare to make and Kubrick's perfectionism is said to have resulted in a near nervous breakdown for Shelley Duvall.
Despite this, the seminal horror classic has become an icon of 20th century cinema and is frequently voted the best horror film ever made.
So what makes it such an incredible film? The first ever use of Steadicam following Danny on his tricycle through the hotel? The eerie soundtrack? Jack Nicholson's terrifying performance?
The answer is, of course, all of the above. But what really sets it apart from horror films of today, is the fact that it treats the audience as adults. Modern horror films pack as many jumps, cartoon-like shocks and special effects into 2 hours as possible. The real terror of The Shining is Kubrick himself.

🛀 237 - haunted room number changed from the novel's original 217 at the request of the Timberline Lodge whose exterior was used as The Overlook.
🎬 127 - exhausting takes of Wendy and Jack's iconic baseball bat scene - in The Guinness Book of Records for the most takes ever with spoken dialogue.
🚪 60 - doors Jack Nicholson axed through before the obsessive Kubrick had what he wanted.

🍸 1921 - year of the hotel's July 4th Ball pictured at the end of the film.
