China's economic struggles are deepening, with deflation taking center stage and concerns about potential stagflation growing. Recently, former People's Bank of China Governor Yi Gang openly criticized the leadership’s narrow focus on GDP, urging attention to pressing issues like unemployment and declining income. In August, food prices surged—fresh vegetables rose by 18.1%—driving inflation, while non-essential goods continued to decline, signaling that deflation still dominates. Structural deflation is creating a divide where lower-income citizens experience rising costs for basics, while wealthier individuals face asset deflation.

If the government continues its focus on inflating GDP through excessive money printing without addressing the real economy, China risks a deeper crisis. The resulting devaluation of the yuan would push up the cost of essential imports, worsening the economic situation and potentially leading to stagflation.
