Tell Me How It Happened: 1x02 - Best Moments | RTVE Series
The day arrives when Carlos, along with the rest of the boys in his class, is to make his First Communion. However, this moment comes at the worst possible time, as the Alcántara family has many expenses and doesn't know how to cope with the one looming: the admiral's suit for little Carlos (suit, patent leather shoes, shirt, mother-of-pearl missal), the gift for the boy, and, on top of that, the reception. Antonio tries to get an advance from the Ministry and the printing press, but all doors are closed to him. Mercedes and Antonio wonder if they, too, are falling into the consumerism they have so often criticized in others.
In Paris, the May '68 protests erupt. The news reports provide a full account of those days, much to Herminia's alarm, who now believes that one day something similar will happen here too. So great is her fear that she stockpiles food (mainly cans of sardines) for the day the revolution reaches them.
During his catechism classes, Carlos discovers that the Islamic heaven is filled with sunflower seeds, candy, chocolates, and foosball tables, and is therefore much more fun than the Christian one. He considers forgoing his First Communion and converting to Islam, much to the indignation of Don Venancio, who, knowing Carlos as he does, fears he'll cause a scene during the ceremony, especially since the vicar is attending as a special guest. Ultimately, Carlos discovers just in time that the Quran and ham are incompatible, so he ends up receiving his First Communion.
Inés has the opportunity to go to Paris by bus on a trip organized by the Hermandades del Trabajo (Workers' Brotherhoods) for 2,800 pesetas, including room and board. But given her parents' financial difficulties, she decides to give the money for Carlos's First Communion rather than visit Paris.
