Watercolour pencils can feel confusing at first, especially when it comes to knowing how much colour to add and when to use water. In this video, I explain the core materials and the simple process I use for all of my watercolour pencil drawings.
I begin by covering the key materials you need to get started, including pencils, paper, and basic tools, and explain why these choices matter. From there, I talk through my full drawing process, demonstrated by drawing a yellow tulip.
The process focuses on building colour in clear stages. I start by adding the lightest colours and activating them with water, then repeat the same approach for the midtones and darkest areas. Working in layers like this helps maintain control and avoids overworking the paper.
Once the main colour layers are in place, I show how to refine the drawing by adding details and additional colours to bring the subject to life and brighten the final result.
