Lose The Shame
For decades, misogyny and "beauty standards" set by old white male media moguls dictated Aussie beach culture, oppressing women, bullying them into feeling shame towards their bodies.
I used to refer to myself as a "fat whale" because of the hateful and ignorant attitudes by Western society towards bodies, health and diet.
For decades, I deprived myself of enjoyment of life, especially the beach, sitting full clothed with a book so noone would jeer at my "cellulite", wrapping my lower body in a towel or sarong and cringing when people stared at my legs.
I have #lipoedema.
I'm in my 50s and I'll never regain the years I lost to the haters and the self loathing they inspired towards my own body.

I'm going to live my life, that includes swimming at a beach without a second thought about other people's opinions.
