In this free Excel video lesson, we'll learn how to create a Pricing Spreadsheet in Excel to track Products, Services, Operating Costs, Margins, etc.
The spreadsheet is composed of three parts: registration, costs, and pricing.
Registration is where we'll record all the products, items, materials, and services we use. We'll have information such as the update date, product name, quantity purchased, unit of measurement (unit, grams, meters, liters, box, etc.), total cost, unit cost, unit sale, and finally, the profit margin for each product.
For the profit margin, we can use conditional formatting to highlight the values in green, red, and yellow depending on their size. Larger values turn green, smaller values turn red, and values in between turn yellow or orange. This way, we can automatically color cells in Excel to highlight information, highlight rows in Excel, or color an entire row.
In the second part of the spreadsheet, we have the costs section, where we'll record all of our company's fixed and variable costs, as well as fixed and variable expenses, such as water, electricity, gas, employee costs, rent, internet, etc. We can also add up the total costs to determine the average daily operating cost of the company and the cost per sale that should be added to cover all of the company's operating expenses.
In the last Excel spreadsheet, we have pricing, where we can find the total sales, the cost per sale, the total cost, and finally the sales margin for each of the priced products.
In pricing, we can combine several different products to create a final product, using custom quantities, and then obtain the total cost and total sales for each of these products.
Also in the pricing spreadsheet, we'll have an options list, a small list with all the registered items so we can automate item insertion. Just click on the cell, and this drop-down list will appear in this options box.
