On June 16, 1955, the Soviet MiG-21 light supersonic frontline fighter made its maiden flight. The aircraft entered service with the Soviet Union in 1959. The famous MiG-21 was decommissioned from service with the Soviet Air Force in 1989. What's even more interesting is that outside of Russia, the MiG-21 continued not only in service but also in production.
