Some natural migraine hacks are thought to work by gently shifting how the body handles pain signals and blood flow. For example, placing an ice pack on the back of the head may cool the area around the major blood vessels and nerves, which can calm inflammation and slow the rush of signals that make the pain feel so intense.
A daith piercing—done through the ear’s innermost fold—has been said to mimic the effect of acupuncture. The idea is that constant pressure in that spot might influence nerve pathways linked to headache relief, though evidence is still limited and mixed.
Putting your feet in warm or hot water works in almost the opposite way of the ice pack: it pulls blood flow downward, away from the head, which may ease the pounding pressure many people feel during a migraine.
Finally, pressing on the acupuncture point between the thumb and forefinger—called LI4 in traditional Chinese medicine—is thought to interrupt pain pathways and relax tension. Some people find that stimulating this point can lessen the edge of a headache or help them feel calmer while the migraine passes.
