In this video I provide a brief introduction into the ComEd Hourly Pricing Program (previously known as Residential Real-Time Pricing, or RRTP) as a prelude to a project I am playing with, which is to design an Intelligent Thermostat and color-coded energy cost assistant thingy. I don't really know what I am going to call it yet.

Anyways, this video will give you an idea what this program is that is available in Illinois. I am pretty sure it is available in other states, so check your utility options in your particular area if you are interested.

Note: Apologies that the video isn't completely in focus.

A little clarification: When I state that air conditioning accounts for 40% of total annual energy usage - this is an estimation based on a variety of sources consulted. Newer, more efficient A/Cs use much less power, and certain areas of the US and world may not need to use A/C is much. However, it is a major contributor to energy usage, and thereby cost, for most of the US during the summer months each year.
