I posted this video on Thanksgiving Day because I want you to know that slaves were able to celebrate the holiday. President Abraham Lincoln signed the proclamation that made Thanksgiving Day an official day of observance.
Now on the day, slaves were usually given the day off. They were able to have a festive dinner. Slaves were also alllowed to visit family and friends who lived on other plantations which many took advantage of this to escape.

I wrote Black Business Book, released 2019 to compliment the documentary. The book covers the same as the film but goes into more detail. It list over 200 black history facts, over 150 black owned businesses 9 of which were owned by slaves and it includes quotes by famous black leaders and photos. Its 17 chapters.
