Today we're going back to Abi's roots (she's a quarter German, fun fact!!) and finally checking out RAMMSTEIN. We picked their biggest song "Du Hast" to start, and let's just say it was NOT what we were expecting.
We knew Rammstein was massive, sold out arenas, one of the biggest bands in the world, but we didn't know they leaned this electronic. The genre blend immediately reminded us of Electric Callboy (who, hello, also German, why didn't we connect those dots sooner). We also got into the wordplay behind the song, the German vs English versions, the pun between "du hast" (you have) and "du hasst" (you hate), and how the whole thing is a play on wedding vows. The internet really came through on the lore for this one.
We also have QUESTIONS. Did the girl die at the end of the music video? Why are there so many band members? Is this a comedic German humor situation we're not picking up on? And how did this band become one of the biggest in the world globally?
We were entertained, we were intrigued, and we definitely need a follow up to figure out if this is a lane for us. Live performance has been recommended for round two and we're so down.
